Section of General Practice

The Section consists of two units – the ‘General Practice Unit’ (GP) and the ‘Women and Gender Research in Medicine Unit’.

Staff members conduct research relevant to general practice and teach at the medical school and in the Master of Public Health (MPH) programme. They also provide postgraduate instruction, including PhD courses, and supervise both undergraduates and postgraduates.

The Section employs 10 academic staff members in the General Practice Unit. Most of these academic appointments are part-time, and the appointees combine this work with clinical work as physicians. In addition, the Section has 15 part-time lecturers, 12 assistant lecturers, 450 clinical instructors in general practice and 1 research fellow. It also employs three secretaries.

The Women and Gender Research in Medicine Unit primarily investigates biological, social and psychological gender differences; the reasons for these differences; and their impact on illness and health.

The Section of General Practice collaborates closely with the Research Unit for General Practice in Copenhagen, the University Practice and the Specialty Education in General Practice, all of which are located in the Family Medicine Building at the Centre for Health and Society (CSS).
