Data Resource Profile: The Nordic Obesity Surgery Cohort (NordOSCo)

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal articlepeer-review

The rapidly increasing prevalence of obesity and its negative impact on morbidity and mortality has turned obesity into one of the greatest public health challenges globally. Bariatric surgery is an increasingly common treatment of obesity and is more effective than non-surgical treatment alternatives in achieving substantial and long-lasting weight loss in severely obese individuals. Studies have shown that bariatric surgery leads to reduced overall mortality and remission of obesity-associated comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Short-term outcomes of bariatric surgery have been vastly documented in scientific literature, but there is limited knowledge on the long-term impact of bariatric surgery on obesity-related diseases.
