Studied the predictive validity of the MBHI (T. Millon et al, 1982) and analyzed the differences in personality and attitudes between patients with chronic lower-back pain and patients with acute pain. Human Ss: 26 male and female adults (aged 28–60 yrs) (chronic lower-back pain); 24 male and female adults (aged 18–70 yrs) (controls) (acute pain due to fractures). Ss and controls completed the MBHI at the beginning and at the end of a 6-wk physical and psychological therapy program. The results for the 2 groups were compared. Ss were also interviewed by phone 6–25 mo after the end of treatment to determine the extent of the success of the therapy.
