Molecular and functional assessment of exposure, susceptibility and effects.

The objective is to develop assessment of internal dose of environmental factors, effects in the form of oxidative and chemical stress, cellular responses indicated by gene-expression profiles, DNA damage and related DNA repair capacity, genetic susceptibility, and cardiovascular functions.

Biomarkers of exposure and effects are applied in vulnerable populations and validated with regard to predictive value in relation to environmental exposures and health effects in large national and international cohorts. Biomarkers of exposure and effects are also applied in vitro and in vivo experimental studies addressing biological mechanisms and controlled exposure scenarios.

Functional assessment includes detailed analysis of cognitive and affective functioning in animal models and in humans.
