New collaborations between hospitals and universities will help solve serious health challenges

Partnership

The University of Copenhagen is strongly represented in six newly appointed Clinical Academic Groups, where researchers from hospitals and universities learn from each other and develop new ideas together. This means both faster implementation of scientific results and better treatment for patients.

In a Clinical Academic Group, existing knowledge flows freely, and new ideas for research, innovation, education and skills development initiatives are developed collaboratively, while participants inspire each other's professional agendas.

The Healthcare Research Partnership Greater Copenhagen Health Science Partners (GCHSP) has appointed six new research groups. In addition to the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), the partnership includes the Technical University of Denmark, Region Zealand and the Capital Region of Denmark. All partners are represented in the interdisciplinary clinical academic research groups, which work translationally within their respective medical fields.

The six newly appointed groups will contribute to solving serious health challenges in women's health, the integration of cell and gene therapies, inflammatory bowel diseases, the development of digital tools for homebased treatment, the implementation of homebased treatment, and vaccine research in high-risk adult patients.

"At SUND, we are very proud to be part of so many of the newly appointed Clinical Academic Groups. The GCHSP partnership provides a unique framework for translational collaboration, which is essential if we are to solve the key health challenges facing our society. The many strong applications show that researchers across SUND's departments are deeply committed to excellent research for the benefit of patient treatment," says Bente Stallknecht, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Strong professional networks integrate health and natural sciences

Through Greater Copenhagen Health Science Partners (GCHSP), researchers across KU's faculties are working together to solve health challenges. The newly appointed group ‘HOME’, which will work on the implementation of home treatment, is an example of how knowledge from the Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science is integrated into the field of health science.

“Digital health technologies for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring are becoming increasingly prevalent. These technologies can help ease the pressure on the healthcare system, but we must ensure that they are used responsibly. For example, it is important that citizens can trust that their data is stored securely and used in a way that respects privacy. In-depth, professional knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of the technologies, combined with practical knowledge, is necessary to develop and implement the best possible solutions," says Ken Friis Larsen, Head of the Department of Computer Science.

With the appointment, the six new research groups will receive a basic grant of DKK 3 million.
