The development of eating disorders in adolescence: disentangling risk factors

By Nadia Micali - Professor and Head of Research in Eating Disorders, Psychiatric Center Ballerup, Mental Health Services of the Capital Region of Denmark

Eating Disorders (anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), and binge eating disorder (BED)) are debilitating and often chronic disorders, with impact on an individuals’ social, physical, and psychological well- being. ED affect around between 10-15% of adolescents and young adults, with peak onset between ages 15-25 years, hence occurring at a crucial time of brain, body, and social development. The last five-ten years have seen a leap in our understanding of genetic factors associated with ED (particularly AN). However, ED are complex disorders and non-genetic risk also plays an important role. In this talk I will focus on my lab's work on understanding developmental aspects of risk for ED.

Everyone is invited to join us for a glass of wine and epidemiological networking after the seminar. Participation is free and open to everyone. The seminar is arranged by the Section of Epidemiology and the Graduate Program in Public Health and Epidemiology.
