Clinical sexological practice at the largest outpatient clinic in Denmark

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal articleResearchpeer-review

The article describes sexological practice at the largest public health clinic of sexology in Denmark including assessment, treatment, and follow-up of patients referred to the clinic. Special attention is given to the use of psychological interventions in the treatment process. The article concludes with a short critical discussion of the practice of applied clinical sexology in Denmark today and some of the challenges facing it. Throughout the article, it is argued that: (1) assessment, treatment, and follow-up of patients should be rooted in valid scientific evidence; (2) a strong integration of science in applied sexology is paramount to optimal patient treatment, and (3) a scientifically principled approach to applied sexology is critical to the credibility, justification, and ongoing support of applied sexology by public health authorities and decision-makers.
