Dr. Lena Skovgaard Andersen recently joined the Global Health Section in the Department of Public Health at the University of Copenhagen as a Postdoc working with Professor Wietse A. Tol. Dr. Andersen was previously a Senior Research Officer in the HIV Mental Health Research Unit in the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town. Dr. Andersen is a clinical psychologist specializing in evidence-based treatments, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy. Her research to date has focused on culturally adapting evidence-based interventions for common mental disorders in people living with HIV (PLWH) in South Africa. She was the project director of a NIMH R01 funded randomized controlled trial of a nurse-administered cognitive-behavioral therapy intervention for adherence and depression in HIV in South Africa. Dr. Andersen was also a clinical member of the multidisciplinary Chronic Pain team at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. Her clinical and research interests are in developing and scaling evidence-based psychosocial interventions for mental health, particularly in behavioral medicine, in resource-constrained settings globally.
