Danish research group visits Mexico
During the second week of March, a group of Danish researchers from the University of Copenhagen and Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen – the two Danish institutions involved in the Coexistence of Obesity and Anaemia during Pregnancy study – visited the Mexican collaborators following a partial re-opening of the public institutions in Mexico.
First visit by the Danish group was in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos. Here, the IMSS Hospital is hosting the MAS-Lactancia birth cohort study, and one of the two academic collaborating partners, Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública (INSP, English: the National Institute of Public Health), is situated.
Research meetings were organized at INSP, and the staff at the MAS-Lactania birth cohort hosted a visit, as did the medical director at IMSS Hospital. Antenatal care visit procedures were demonstrated by our Mexican partners as well.
The visit ended in the capital city of Mexico, where our other academic collaborating partner, the private university, Universidad Iberoamericana (IBERO), hosted the Danish group. Here the Department of Health gave a tour of their impressive research facilities, and a plan was made for collection of interview data to inform the phase 2 of the study, which is a RCT design and planning intervention development phase.
An interview was made with Mexican PI Dr. Alejandra Cantoral for a local online newsletter at IBERO (interview in Spanish).
