Call for applicants: Three PhD scholarships available
The Y-ENGAGE project is looking for three outstanding PhD candidates.
- Do you have an interest in empowering young people to respond to the climate crisis?
- Can you demonstrate experience of working with participatory and qualitative methods?
- Do you have practical experience of working with children and young people, either in public health, education or climate change contexts?
- Do you have a Master’s degree in the field of social psychology, sociology, anthropology or human geography?
- Do you have strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Kiswahili?

PhD scholarship 1 (University of Dar es Salaam) – PhD 1 will co-lead an empirical sub-study within the Y-ENGAGE project looking to explore how a diverse group of young people experience and conceive the relationship between human activity, climate-related events, and local resource availability (e.g. water, food, energy).

PhD scholarship 2 (University of Dar es Salaam) – PhD 2 will co-lead an empirical sub-study within the Y-ENGAGE project looking to explore how a group of young people in different ways exert influence and transform climate-related practices, both at home and in their communities. The study will also explore the factors that shape their (in)ability to translate climate awareness into action.

PhD scholarship 3 (Ardhi University) – PhD 3 will co-lead an empirical sub-study within the Y-ENGAGE project looking to investigate opportunities and challenges for teachers and schools to facilitate empowering climate change engagement.
