New annual report highlights progress in strengthening health professions education in India and Kenya
The 2025 report from the University of Copenhagen’s involvement in Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP-UCPH) documents how international collaboration, digital teaching approaches and research strengthened health professions education across India and Kenya during 2025.
The annual report 2025 marks the first year of a new five-year project phase funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, with a focus on mutual capacity strengthening between partner institutions in Denmark, India and Kenya.
“This first year was about establishing a shared direction for the partnership,” says Anne-Marie Mosbech Jensen, Senior Consultant.
“By investing early in relationships, collaboration about digital education and research capacity, we have created a strong platform for the partnership over the coming years
Throughout 2025, PEP-UCPH activities combined education, research and capacity strengthening. Highlights included the launch of a MOOC on cardiometabolic diseases, the continuation of international research mentorships, partner visits in India and Kenya, and the initiation of new Communities of Practice bringing together educators, digital education specialists, researchers and policymakers.
“The Communities of Practice have been particularly important for moving beyond bilateral collaboration,” says Lasse X Jensen, Assistant Professor. “They allow partners to work together across institutions and countries on shared challenges in health professions education.”
PEP Symposium
A central milestone was the first PEP Symposium, held in Copenhagen in October 2025, which convened more than 90 participants from India, Kenya and Denmark.
“The Symposium created a unique space for partners to meet, learn and plan together,” says Helle Max Martin, Senior Consultant. “It marked a shift towards more inclusive, multilateral engagement and helped set the agenda for future collaboration.”
The report also reflects on key learnings from the year, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, balanced partnerships and systematic reflection.
“One of our strongest takeaways from 2025 is the value of learning from our own activities as we go,” says Jane Brandt Sørensen, Associate Professor. “Those insights are already shaping how we design education, research and capacity strengthening activities for 2026.”
The findings will guide the continued development and scaling up of PEP-UCPH activities in the coming year. To read more about the PEP-UCPH work and research, please visit our website.
